Honoring Donors & Their Families

Donor Family Recognition Program

Each year, our organization holds a special event to honor and celebrate organ, eye, and tissue donors and their families. This annual event rotates between Oregon and Idaho, bringing together donor families to pay tribute to their loved one and their legacy.

Donor Family Facebook Group

The Donor Family Facebook Group is a private, supportive space for donor family members to connect, share, and find comfort in the company of others who understand their journey. This closed Facebook group provides a welcoming forum where families can offer and receive support, share stories, and build connections with others who have experienced the impact of donation. The group is moderated to foster a safe and respectful environment.

Writing Your Letter

The Aftercare Department is dedicated to supporting families and transplant recipients through letter writing. For more information about how to write a letter to your recipient or donor family, please click on the link below. It provides step-by-step instructions.

There are also virtual writing workshops offered throughout the year that will be posted on our website homepage when there is an upcoming event scheduled. For additional questions about letter writing, contact CLAaftercare@ohsu.edu or 503-418-3536.

Donor Moment of Silence

Each month, during our staff meeting, we take a moment to honor every patient whose family walked with us through the journey of exploring organ donation. We read each name aloud followed by a moment of silence. This shared moment allows us to reflect on the impact of each donor’s legacy and the courage of their families. It is also a reminder of our mission’s purpose and a tribute to those who, in life and in death, gave the gift of hope to others.

Donor Family Event Ideas

Over the years, we have hosted a variety of meaningful events to honor donor families and create a space for remembrance, connection, and healing. These have included tree planting ceremonies, family picnics, and craft events—each designed to bring together families who share a unique bond through the gift of donation.

As we continue to develop new ways to support and celebrate our donor families, we welcome your ideas. If you have suggestions for future events, please email us. Your insights help us create programs that honor each donor’s legacy and foster a supportive community.
